A recognizable addition to Beirut’s skyline

By the time we were asked to redesign this 27 storey tower, we had inherited the existing concrete frame based on the project’s initial design and execution. In approaching this task, we aimed to minimize the remedial work needed on site while also reinventing the project into an iconic and easily recognizable addition to Beirut’s skyline.

 

The Mondrian

Inspired by the work of Piet Mondrian, we created a lattice which frames the surrounding view of Beirut. In this outermost skin, there are large winter-garden balconies for each apartment, offering dramatic living spaces overlooking a 400 sqm entrance garden below. From the 14th floor up, these spaces open to dramatic views of the port and sea.

 

A penthouse is introduced to the 26th floor and is comprised of a double height main reception space, a mezzanine for the bedrooms, and roof terrace with an outdoor swimming pool overlooking the panoramic views of the city.
