A ruin within a forested valley

Designed as a ruin within a forested valley which once defined this site in Hazmiyeh, this single storey kindergarten is defined by a system of parallel walls, built within the existing landscape.

 

Spatial fluidity

The colored walls stay true to the Innocent Minds corporate identity and introduce fluidity between the internal spaces and external surroundings.

 

The parallel walls define a welcoming but secured entrance, create naturally lit and ventilated spaces within the building, and generate an articulated roof that can be used as a future extension to the playground.

 

An archaeological clarity

This single storey building develops a sculptural presence along the steeply sloping street, as it is often experienced from higher ground and surrounding buildings. With its archaeological clarity, bold use of color, and playful order it is hoped that the building is intended as a catalyst for imagination, education, and well-being.
