An imbued spatial luxury

Built at a time when Faraya, Lebanon’s most popular ski resort, was also becoming a popular summer destination, the design of these two identical chalets for a couple good friends aims to be open and fluid and imbued with a spatial luxury notwithstanding the modest size of the plots they are on.

Functional Distribution

The staggered section developed was crucial in achieving those aims, providing the ability to maintain maximum views of the dramatic landscape to the north for the reception and dining room (an interpretation of the Great English Hall), along with the family room at mezzanine, and master bedroom at first floor, while also introducing direct sunlight from an 11m long clerestory opening directly on to the roof terrace to the south.

Building elevations

The section of the house informs both side elevations to the east and west, while the north elevation is almost entirely glazed bringing the dramatic view of the arid alpine landscape in. Overlooking the road, the south elevation is more opaque and scaled down.
