Preserving the landscape

Located on a cliff, at the topmost edge of the development, under a dramatic shear below Chabrouh Monastery, this architectural intervention inserts itself into the natural slope and terrain thus preserving the existing landscape. The chalets appear as pure structures that capture the charged nature of the site and its surroundings.

The buildings are fragmented into four identical reinforced concrete shells sitting within the mountain slope and treated as part of the landscape while pivoting slightly to address surrounding views and reconcile their relationship to contours. Outdoor jacuzzis, fire pits, roof top bars, and private saunas complement the experiential architecture, feeding into the relaxed and active social lifestyle.

Spaces within the shells

Within these shells, the sections of the vertically stacked chalets are manipulated and cranked, offering double height living space, mezzanine like master bedrooms with walls that open up to the double height space in a theatrical motion, unobstructed views from all rooms, dramatic outdoor and roof terraces, and an intimate relationship to the impressive mountain slope into which they are inserted.

Materiality

The materials used are honest and chosen suitably for the role they play in the chalets’ architecture and spatial qualities. Beton Brut is for the strong structural shell, warm wood flooring for the interior, and fully glazed façades open up to surrounding views with perforated aluminum shutters for solar control and security.
